What:

Jr. MUNSA or JMUN is a program within Model United Nations San Antonio that will be used to foster a new generation of MUNSA attendees: middle schoolers. MUNSA already builds upon the communicative and research based skills of high school students, but by expanding the invitation to middle schools in San Antonio, we will be introducing a younger group of students to a wave of new collaborative and diplomatic ideas. The founding idea of this program is “to learn by doing,” and by essentially becoming a MUNSA delegate for a day with debate, research, and compromise, new mental disciplines will blossom within the minds of participants.

JMUN will take place on the first day of MUNSA. Jr. Delegates will have a schedule to follow which will include a tour of the conference, observing a committee in session, and a debate of their own.  In order to make this experience as authentic as possible, middle school students will follow a similar itinerary to high school delegates but with a smoother pace in order to let Jr. Delegates appreciate the essential learning points of any Model UN conference.

JMUN Delegates will debate over a topic modeled after the General Assembly

When:

As previously stated, JMUN will be on the first day of MUNSA, January 9, 2020.  The official schedule for the conference can be found here.

Where:

The conference will be held on the campus of Trinity University at 1 Trinity Pl, San Antonio, TX 78212.  Opening ceremonies will be held in the Laurie Auditorium and the majority of the JMUN program will be in The Cube at Trinity.  No transportation will be provided for middle school students. All middle schools will have to organize their own transportation; moreover, school buses will be allowed to drop students off on the Trinity campus.

How:

For the conference, students can prepare a page long position paper for their country. This is not mandatory but suggested for the students’ understanding of the debate topic at hand, along with their given country’s position on it.  More information on topics and countries can be found on the JMUN Master Matrix.

Once again, transportation WILL NOT be provided for any middle school students.  If this poses an issue for the attendance of your delegation please email Ryan Tubbesing.
